| What is a Favicon? |

In the location field some browsers display, after having loaded a certain website, a little symbol in front of the URL fitting the visited website. This little symbol is the so called favicon, which is deposited by the webmasters of that site.
Straight before bookmarks, also called favorites, today only some browser display the favicon.
Browsers supporting a favicon are: Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, Konqueror, Internet Explorer, Safari and several more.
We suggest a favicon ICO-format with 32x32 pixel or/and 16x16 pixel with each 256 colors. Most browsers display favicons in 16x16 by doing, if necessary, a resize to 16x16, if only a 32x32 variant is available.
The easiest way adding a favicon to a domain is by copying an icon to the root of the domain. Important is changing the name of the icon to favicon.ico.
The ICO-format is not identically to the BMP-format. Please use a appropriate software, capable of creating real ICO-files. Icons displayed by peerbot can not be used, because they are formatted as GIF-files.
